šNotes: Confessions of a candid coachee (part 2) š¤Æ
Hi!
Last week I shared some notes from a real coaching session. The āduringā story.
This week I wanted to share notes from someone who has achieved the goal they sought coaching for. The āafterā story.
Sam and I worked together on executive coaching at the end of 2022. Since then he launched the podcast he wanted to launch.
Below he shares how he took the steps to define a goal and then figure out how to achieve it. Check out his podcast via the Spotify link at the bottom of this post.
Congratulations Sam! šŖš¾
As someone thatās either training for a marathon, working on a new client event, hitting quarterly quotas or managing family life - Iām always working on the next big idea or chasing the next thing.Ā
While I have an abundance of ideas and unlimited golden retriever energy; I usually end up burning out (no surprise!). Sometimes, I pause, reflect and seek help from people that might give me an outside perspective.Ā
During one of these cycles, I took time out to reflect on my Ikigai and I drew up the concept of āThe Happy Salesā podcast.
I took time to understand why I was doing this and the inspiration behind this:Ā
It felt like the perfect intersection of the curiosity I have for sales, the natural joy I have in creating connections with new people and helping others.Ā
After reading the Happiness Advantage - Shawn Anchor and Happy Money - Ken Honda, I felt weāre all too pressured sometimes chasing outcomes. Happiness for me is not an outcome, it's a process. It's a habit.
The opportunity to meet successful people really excited meĀ
The platform it would create to inspire people, to engage with more people and create impact excited me
So I came up with a Hypothesis:
Success comes from being happier and more positive, not the other way around.
By sharing our stories, we inspire salespeople in Asia to be the best version of themselves
But I had 100 reasons not to go ahead with this.
I did not have the time, I had zero experience and quite frankly felt embarrassed. I had enough on my plate with work and personal life.Ā
So I started small. I created a Google Sheet with every step I needed to take and even if it was a tiny step - I took it.
With each day, week that passed, I started to shape the idea.
Most importantly, with the work that I put in, I started to believe in myself.Ā
I reached out to people I respect in my network to ask if I could interview them. I have to thank Greg Meehan as he was the first person to say yes.
We recorded the episode. Was it perfect? - NO. But I was proud to get it done.Ā
Cut to a year later - and the Happy Sales podcast is live and thriving on Spotify!
So how does it feel?
The opportunity to meet successful people and share clips like this has been amazing.
The personal growth and learning that Iāve had - on marketing, positioning and building the show have helped me have broader conversations with clients.
I was really proud that something that started as an idea could grow this far. Iām excited that there is so much more opportunity ahead!
