The concept of retirement has changed significantly in the last few years - with many people thinking of it as time freedom rather than never working again.
A key concept to reflect on is one of “enough”.
Below is a simple exercise you can use to reflect on what enough looks like.
This simple calculator helps you figure out when you can retire!
Good luck!
Exercise: Could I retire early?
1. Have I had enough?
- What have I accomplished that brings me pride and fulfillment?
- Are there any unfinished goals or aspirations?
- Am I ready to let go of my professional identity?
- What values, skills, or experiences will I carry into retirement?2. Do I have enough?
- What are my financial resources (savings, investments, pensions)?
- What expenses will continue or change in retirement?
- How will I maintain my desired lifestyle?
- Are there any financial concerns or uncertainties?
3. Will I have enough?
- What are my long-term financial projections?
- How will inflation, healthcare or unexpected expenses impact my retirement?
- What other income streams can I develop?
- How will I stay engaged, active, and fulfilled?
Done. Retired 12 months ago. 😊
We had the money. Work was getting challenging, and we wanted a change. I love being able to play with ideas all day long. Write here. Read. Think about what it would look like if I put 3 different books in a blender and mixed them up, and wonder what story would pop out.
Things they don't pay for if you work at a power generation station. ;)
My wife and I play cards most days and we enjoy putting gig saw puzzles together to together.
